Bernier's Belgians
Bernier Belgians was originally started by Dean and his father, Armand, in 1983. They started by purchasing a team of mares (Donna and Belle) from Brewsters Belgians. One of the first big excursions was the Prince Albert Exhibition Centennial Wagon Trek (Carlton Trail) in 1983. This trip took Dean, his parents (Armand & Mag), and his sister (Janice) eight days, covering 20 miles/day from Saskatoon to Prince Albert. Since then Armand and Dean have successfully shown their Belgians at various fairs throughout the province including the Prince Albert Exhibition, Tisdale, Melfort, Humboldt, Rosthern, North Battleford, Nipawin, and Regina Agribition.
Armand has since retired from the horses. Dean has relocated the Belgians and a few light horses to the edge of Prince Albert, using them weekly or even daily, replacing the tractor. From halter horses to the 8 horse hitch, from the show ring to field work, it has all been done, for over 30 years. "We bridle what we own".

I acquired Phillip Brewster's old show wagon last fall. Not only is this the wagon I used for the 8 horse hitch in 1991, but the under carriage was once my grandfathers old dray wagon from when he ran the livery barn and dray in Hoey, SK. This is a project which will take years of shop time to rebuild! The new 2015 year has been great for horses. The mild weather has been a great relief from the past two, long, cold winters. Not looking forward to mosquito season! I have been choring with my two year old mare, and the two yearlings have also been started on the sleigh. Although I have three teams on the go this winter, time will tell if I drive them as a six this year. Anyone interested in buying an awesome broke team with an incredible win record both in the show ring and as a competitive chore team, give me a call.
